(May 10, 2007) An amendment to the Construction Lien Act is moving quickly through the Senate. A bill making technical amendments to the Construction Lien Act was reported by the Senate Economic Development & Regulatory Reform Committee yesterday afternoon. Senate Bill 487 was introduced earlier in the day. The purpose of the bill is to clarify that certain requirements in the act apply only to residential projects. Last year's amendments were designed to strengthen the Homeowner's Construction Lien Recovery Fund and were not intended to affect other types of projects. The bill is being sought by the Michigan Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. The bill is expected to pass the full Senate on Tuesday.
