(May 24, 2007) Representative Gabe Leland has introduced to adopt the 2004 International Energy Conservation Code as Michigan's Uniform Energy Code. This has been a controversial issue in the past. Department of Labor adoption of the Model Energy Code in the mid-1990's led to the Legislature's repeal of the department's action and establishment of the Michigan Uniform Energy Code. More recently, department promulgation of a more stringent energy code resulted in a lawsuit filed by the Michigan Association of Homebuilders. Court of Appeals arguments on this case are scheduled for June 5. House Bill 4812 has been referred to the House Energy and Technology Committee.
