Gift Certificates and Gift Card Bills Reported

Gift Certificates and Gift Card Bills Reported (October 15, 2007) House Bills 4050 (Miller); HB 4317 (Meadows); and HB 4680 (Sak) were reported out of the House Commerce committee today. This package of bills addresses consumers concerns regarding expiration dates on gift certificates as well as service fees on gift cards. HB 4050 prohibits such things as refusing to accept a gift certificate during a close out; altering terms and conditions after the certificate is issued; failing to disclose terms and conditions. HB 4317 prohibits an inactivity fee or other service fee. HB 4680 prohibits an expiration date of less than 5 years from date of purchase. The bills now go to the House Floor.
