Carbon Monoxide Detectors Proposed

(October 30, 2007) Two bills requiring carbon monoxide detectors have been introduced in the Michigan Legislature. House Bill 4730 was sponsored by Representative Bieda and requires installation of carbon monoxide detectors in hotel and motel rooms. House Bill 5341 requires installation of the devices in new residential structures. Both bills amend the Stille-DeRossett-Hale Single State Construction Code Act. Substitute language proposed by the Department of Labor & Economic Growth is being considered for both bills. The House Regulatory Reform Committee will meet to hear testimony on the bills on November 6, 2007.
