These energy centers demonstrate and display products and materials that you will want to consider for your existing or new home.

 

ALLIANCE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The Alliance for Environmental Sustainability provides up-to-date information on building healthy, "green" and energy efficient.  Located in the Greater Grand Rapids area, the Alliance hosts seminars on a variety of topics, including mold remediation, the 5 Star Energy Efficiency program,  and much more.  With today's interest in environmentally conscious living and indoor air quality, healthy products and methods of home construction continue to improve.  Guided tours are available.  Call 616-241-5537 to schedule.  Visit the website to learn more and for upcoming seminars and events.  www.alliancees.org

 

GREAT LAKES RENEWABLE ENERGY ASSOCIATION

GLREA is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1991 to provide education to the public in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable development.  The GLREA Energy Demonstration Center features an energy efficient renovation of a historic 1897 Civil War Memorial Hall with renewable energy applications.

RECYCLE ANN ARBOR

The intent of the En-House Green Building Demonstration Area is to educate the general public and the professional building community about the importance and practical details of green buildings. A "green building" is one where the qualities of both the indoor and outdoor environments have been considered and protected during its design, construction, maintenance and use. A display space on the inside and a full-scale model house on the outside, the En-House highlights the environmentally superior building products from which it was made. UPLAND HILLS ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS CENTER

Nestled in a beautiful wooded setting, this unique earth-sheltered Center is surrounded by hundreds of acres of land in Northern Oakland County. Built as an example of "doing more with less", the Center features wind, solar and wood energy, and many energy efficient components. Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center has guided group tours by appointment, as well as many other programs and activities that promote a responsible relationship with the natural world. Your Energy Tour can be expanded to include such activities as a tour of the grounds...the medicine wheel...or the viewing of current videos on energy and sustainability-related issues. URBAN OPTIONS

Founded in 1978, Urban Options is a non-profit community agency which helps people improve the environment and save money by using energy and other resources more efficiently.  Urban Options provides energy and environmental information and services to the public.  Their Energy and Environmental Demonstration House features a variety of exhibits related to energy efficiency and renewable energy resources. Urban Options has guided tours every Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., or you can arrange another time for a tour by calling (517) 337-0422. WARM TRAINING CENTER

WARM Training Center is a non-profit organization that has been working in the Detroit area on issues related to affordable housing for almost 20 years.   WARM promotes the development of healthy, affordable housing. It does this primarily by providing technical assistance to nonprofit housing groups and by providing classes on home repairs, energy conservation and sustainable living. WARM now hosts a resource center and demonstration site for green building information, as well as an online directory of green building information.
