Agency: Labor & Economic Growth

June 7, 2007 - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth (DLEG) Director Keith W. Cooley announced today that six more service stations will receive a total of $43,397 in incentives to install dispensing equipment to offer ethanol (E85) and biodiesel (B20) fuel to the public. These incentives are part of a larger effort underway to increase fleet and consumer access to bio-based renewable transportation fuels across Michigan.

"Michigan is committed to leading the world in the development, production and use of alternative energy," said Granholm. "As a part of that effort, we are working with the auto companies, farmers, biofuel producers and distributors to increase the use and availability of ethanol and biodiesel and these grants take us one step closer to our goal."

Service station owners receiving incentives agree to complete their installation and begin dispensing E85 and B20 fuel to the public by August 31, 2007. The following stations are receiving incentives:

  • H & H Mobil - $12,000, E85, (East Lansing)
  • Belleville Petroleum - $12,000, E85, (Belleville)
  • Quick Sav Food Stores - $8,397, E85,(Swartz Creek)
  • Northwestern Michigan Biofuels - $4,000, B20, (Boardman)
  • Dury Oil Company - $4,000, B20, (White Pigeon)
  • Zeeland Farm Services - $3,000, B20, (Zeeland)

"Michigan now has more than 100 service stations offering ethanol and biodiesel fuels to the public, Cooley said. "Increasing the production and use of biofuels helps diversify Michigan's economy, strengthen our agricultural sector and improve our air quality," he added.

Funding for the Biofuel Infrastructure Incentive Program is made available through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (www.energy.gov). The program is administered by the DLEG Energy Office, (www.michigan.gov/energyoffice) in cooperation with the Michigan Strategic Fund.
