April 3, 2007 - The Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) will hold its bimonthly meeting on Monday, April 16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Michigan Commission for the Blind Training Center, 1541 Oakland Drive, in Kalamazoo. The meeting is open to the public. Live audio of the meeting can be accessed free of charge via the Internet at the MCB website at www.michigan.gov/mcb.
A key focus of this meeting will be an overview of services provided to blind individuals at the MCB Training Center. The MCB ad hoc committee on training center services, which is concluding its work after one year, will report to commissioners and offer recommendations on service enhancement.
In addition, the agenda will include an open dialogue on the topic, "How can we be creative in helping people who are blind get the necessary technology training when funds are limited?" There will also be updates from MCB staff.
The complete meeting agenda is online on the MCB website at www.michigan.gov/mcb under MCB Board, Commission Meeting Agendas.
The meeting site is accessible. Individuals attending the meeting are requested to refrain from using heavily scented personal care products in order to enhance accessibility for everyone. People with disabilities requiring additional accommodations (such as materials in alternative format) in order to participate in the meeting should call Tish Kingaby at (517) 335-4265 by April 11.
Through its state- and federally funded training and services, MCB provides opportunities for individuals who are blind or visually impaired to achieve independence and employment.
