Does Michigan distribute free TTYs and ringing signal devices like some other states do?
 
Answer:
No, but the telephone companies in Michigan must provide TTYs at cost. You should call your own telephone company for this information . To order TTYs at the special discount you will need proof of your deafness by a licensed physician, audiologist, Ameritech customers can choose Minicom IV, Uniphone 1140, Miniprint 425, or Superprint 4425. The cost will depend on the model you choose. Ameritech Michigan customers who wish to place an order can call 1-800-433-8505 (HiTec Group International) Ameritech will also sell amplifiers and ring signalers at cost to their deaf and hard of heari GTE offers their customers a choice of either the PV20 or MP2000D by Krown Manufacturing. GTE Phone Mart, Mount Pleasant (517) 772-1459V or 517) 775-2051 TTY and GTE Phone Mart, Muskegon (616) 726-5700V.

Other phone companies in Michigan will also sell TTYs at cost. You must contact your own company to get ordering information. Their business phone number is usually in the front of their directories.
