Are there any tax credits available for businesses that hire a deaf /hard of hearing person?

Answer:
Yes, The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) provides a tax credit of up to 35% of the first $6,000 ($2,100) in wages for employers who hire certain targeted groups, including deaf/hard of hearing or other disabled individuals. Applicants who are Vocational Rehabilitation referrals are eligible. This program in in effect until June 30, 1998 and may be renewed by Congress again after that time. For more information check with your local Michigan Rehabilitation Services Office or on the Internet at Work Opportunity and Welfare-to-Work Tax Credit Programs. Also, there are tax credits to cover the cost of accommodating deaf/hard of hearing employees. For example the cost of interpreter service or assistive listening equipment would be deductible. For more information on tax incentives check under the ADA.
