Sign Requirements For Rides

The Carnival-Amusement Safety Act, Public Act 255 of 1966 required amusement ride operators to display signs that provide the public with rider safety information and where to report an accident, should one occur.  These requirements were developed by a task force of state, public and industry representatives.

Two types of signs are required:  Rider Duties and Restrictions and Rider Responsibilities.  The requirements for both are contained in the Sections 18 and 19 (408.668 and 408.669) and Rule 98 R408.898.  The signs must be at least 18 inches by 24 inches and be of a "bold and ligible design".

The Rider Duties & Restrictions signs present information specific to an individual ride, such as height or other restrictions and instructions for use by riders.  The Rider Responsibility signs present general rider responsibilities required by the Act and Rules.
