Beginning January 1, 1992 all new applicants for a license in Michigan are required to obtain 3 years of work experience under internship guidelines established by the NCARB. Exam applicants must apply through NCARB until all sections of the ARE Exams have been passed. Submittal of an IDP Certificate of Completion issued by NCARB serves as evidence that education and professional work experience requirements have been satisfied.
Reciprocal applicants applying with an NCARB blue cover council record, and who were originally licensed prior to January 1, 1992, must show at least 3 years professional work experience credit in their NCARB record. Reciprocal applicants submitting an NCARB blue cover council record shall be granted the applicable education and professional work experience credit based on their NCARB evaluation.
Reciprocal applicants who do not apply with an NCARB council record, and who were licensed prior to January 1, 1992, must provide verification of at least 3 years of professional architectural work experience verified by 3 architects and 2 others.
