Change in Fingerprint Check Processing Fee

Agency:  Labor & Economic Growth

There is a reduction in the cost of doing fingerprint-based criminal history background checks of applicants for licensing or employment.  Effective October 1, 2007, the cost of processing an applicant's print electronically through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will be reduced by $4.75.

The cost reduction by the FBI is the result of a study that determined that the FBI has realized a great gain in efficiency by having states like Michigan send prints in via an electronic process.

Therefore, effective October 1, 2007, the fee required to be collected on behalf of the Michigan State Police for a State and FBI search will change from $54.00 to $49.25.  As previously required, employee fingerprint cards and the required fee should be mailed directly to the Department of State Police.
