Education Requirements for Examination Applicants
Current board rules require that applicants for the NCEES professional engineers
examinations possess an ABET-EAC or CEAB accredited bachelors degree in engineering.
Applicants who do not possess the accredited bachelors degree must obtain evaluation
of their education equating it to ABET guidelines. The Board of Professional
Engineers recommends the following:
Education Requirements for Reciprocity Applicants
All applicants originally licensed after January 1, 1977 must verify possession
of a bachelors degree in engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for
Engineering and Technology (ABET) or the Canadian Engineering Accreditation
Board (CEAB), or they must show that their education is of an equivalent standard.**
Applicants who do not possess an ABET-EAC accredited degree must obtain an
independent evaluation from Engineering Credentials Evaluation International
(ECEI), of their education equating it to the ABET standards, which includes
at least 32 semester/48 quarter hours of math and basic science; 32 semester/48
quarter hours of engineering science; 16 semester/24 quarter hours of engineering
design; and 16 semester/24 quarter hours of humanities and social science courses.
| **A recent policy
change has been adopted to "...accept possession of a masters degree
in engineering from a school and program with a CEAB or EAC/ABET accredited
bachelors degree in the same engineering discipline as the masters as being
equivalent to an accredited bachelors degree in engineering." |
| Reciprocal applicants may submit an NCEES
council record to provide proof of their education. |
