200 hours of department approved prelicensure appraiser education (see specific course requirements in Table 1) AND an associate degree or 21 college semester credit hours (seeTable 2 for requirements in lieu of a degree)

2,500 hours during no less than 24 months, 2,000 of which must be in residential properties

28 hours for every 2 years of licensing after the first renewal

Appraise 1 to 4 family residential properties, without regard to complexity or value and commercial properties under $250,000 transaction value

Certified Residential Appraisers may appraise 1 to 4 family residential real property of any type or value, including appraisals for federally related transactions. An application may be filed upon completion of 200 hours of course work which includes the 15-hour national USPAP course; and 2,500 hours of documentable appraisal experience during no less than 24 months, at least 2,000 hours of which are for residential properties. Qualifying education must also cover the topic of narrative appraisal report writing. To obtain the certified residential appraiser application materials call the board office at (517) 241-9288, request the materials in writing, or download the application from the Forms and Publications page.
