JET was just the beginning for Jessice Davis. Since first participating in the program, she now works as a housing unit coordinator for St. Mary's Health System after completing a health unit coordinator degree from Delta College. She recently purchased her first home through Habitat for Humanity.
Her future wasn't always so certain. Pregnant with twin boys, Jessica Davis found herself alone and without resources to take care of herself and her baby daughter. She didn't have family in the area to help her with basic items for the new babies. The staffs at Saginaw County Department of Human Services and the Michigan Works! Agency stepped up and connected the young woman with community resources to help with cribs, car seats and diapers for her children.
"I don't know what I would have done," Jessica said. "I didn't have anyone I could turn to and with twins on the way, I was overwhelmed."
Jessica made significant progress on her JET self-sufficiency plan. She completed her GED at Employment and Training Connection and then advanced from a part-time job in food service to a floor sales position at an electronics retailer. Now she's working in her chosen professional field. Jessica credits JET with getting her and her young family on the way to self-sufficiency.
