After seven years of being a stay-at-home mom, Angela Suor was thrust into the job market to support herself and her three children.
She has a bachelor's degree in community health, however being new to the area was just one of many barriers to employment she has had to overcome. She was often considered overqualified for low-skill jobs, but lacked recent work history or important connections to the work place to help her obtain a career position.
Angela enrolled in JET and volunteered 40 hours a week at a homeless shelter to obtain work experience. With her degree, she was able to assist the case managers at the shelter, doing more than most volunteers. Her volunteer experience paid off and she secured a position helping people with physical and mental challenges maintain employment.
