  Mail Services
What does "automation compatible" mean?

Answer:
Automation compatible means that mail has been prepared according to U.S. Postal Service regulations to allow for the mail to be sorted down to the finest level possible by automated equipment. Addressing requirements include using all capitals in the address, omitting all punctuation except the hyphen in the ZIP+4 Code, and using the proper abbreviations for directionals and states. Other requirements include barcode clear zone, placement of the address block and the placement of the return address. Assistance in designing automation compatible mail is available through the Mail Consultant of Mailing Services at (517) 322-1899.
