FAQ
  Surplus Programs
State Surplus - Is sales tax applied to the sale of State Surplus items?

Answer:

Yes. A 6% State sales tax is applied to all sales, including vehicles, and must be paid along with the purchase price at the auction.  The only exemptions are if a vehicle is used for farm use or you have a Michigan Department of Treasury Form 3372 Michigan Sales and Use Tax Certificate of Exemption.
