Vehicle Breakeven Calculator - FY12

Uncertain whether to consider a permanently assigned vehicle, a pool vehicle or provide mileage reimbursement? Consider this Vehicle Breakeven Calculator as a tool to assist in making your determination. Contained within this tool is an Outside Rental Breakeven Calculator to assist in making a decision on whether to reimburse, provide a vehicle, or use an outside rental.

Instructions for using the Vehicle Breakeven Calculator :

Using the button entitled "Summary Calculator," provide the requested data.

  1. If it is a Monthly need, then use the first box, or if you are considering a daily need, then use the second box.
  2. Enter the average number of miles expected to travel.
  3. Answer the question, either Yes or No, on whether there is a state vehicle available.

Once you have entered this information, one of two messages will appear as the Lowest Cost of Transportation.

  1. Provide reimbursement, or
  2. Provide a state vehicle

The button entitled "Breakeven Analysis" is to be used for reference only. This sheet explains the values used to calculate and respond to the entries made on the "Summary Calculator" sheet.

* If you are running Windows XP and cannot access the Vehicle Breakeven Calculator, first open a blank Excel worksheet.  From the top toolbar, select Tools, Macros, Security, and change the security setting to Medium.  Click OK and close Excel.  Then select the Vehicle Breakeven Calculator link from this page.
