Why Recycle?
All State offices are required by law to recycle. Besides being the law, recycling is good for the environment. It reduces greenhouse gases, disruption to the habitat for harvesting of material, and energy use in the manufacture of new material. However, recycling also makes financial sense. Due to the increased interest in quality materials to recycle, the State receives premium rebates for properly sorted paper. In addition, increasing the amount of paper to be recycled also helps to increase the number of jobs required to do the recycling.
For State Employees: How to Recycle
Sort waste paper into five different classifications:
-
White Paper
-
Mixed Paper
-
Newspaper
-
Corrugated Boxes
-
Trash
Proper sorting takes just a little organization and attention. Everyone should have two recycling bins close to their work area. Use any container - even recycle a box. Affix a White Office Paper label to one container, and use this to discard solid white paper. Place a Mixed Office Paper label on the other, and use to discard all color, glossy, and white paper with gummed labels or envelopes with windows.
In addition to these two recycling bins, each office should have a common area to collect newspapers and corrugated boxes. Paper contaminated by food or oil should be placed in the trash.
