State Surplus Store Starts New HoursOctober 28, 2011 Effective November 1, 2011 the surplus store for the State of Michigan, known as MiStore, will discontinue its weekday sales. MiStore will now be open the third Saturday of each month beginning November 19, 2011 with hours from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. MiStore has a vast inventory of surplus items coming from property seized by police, items voluntarily surrendered at airports, and property no longer needed by government agencies. Items available through the store include computers, paddle boats, pocket knives, wine keys, desks, lawn maintenance equipment, book shelves, jewelry, cameras, police cars, flat screen TVs, and much more. The store is located at 3201 W. St. Joseph Street in Lansing. "This change will allow us to provide a better shopping environment as well as maintaining a fully stocked store for our customers," said Kristi Thompson, who manages the state's surplus program within the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB). "The Saturday sales will also allow more customers the opportunity to take advantage of the great deals in our store." DTMB is charged with collecting these items and making them available to the public for purchase through the surplus store, live auctions and online auctions. Access is also provided to the federal surplus program for government agencies and non-profit organizations. A web site for the latest surplus information can be found at http://www.michigan.gov/surplus and citizens can also follow surplus on twitter @twitter.com/Mi_Surplus. The MiBid online auction site is available to browse and bid 24 hours a day at http://www.michigan.gov/mibid. Questions about the state's surplus program may be directed to the State Surplus office at 517-373-9749.
