State of Michigan Enterprise Vehicle Rental Policy

VTS and your department Vehicle Coordinator are responsible for obtaining the most cost-effective transportation to for short-term needs.

What is Cost Effective Travel?
  • Use of personal vehicle for trips of less than 100 miles
  • Use of VTS Lansing and outstate motor pools
  • Use of department-assigned fleet whenever possible
  • Use of Enterprise for long trips of short duration or when there are no state vehicles available

The Outside Rental Breakeven Calculator can assist you in determining the most cost-effective means of travel.

When you need a vehicle for temporary use, the options are:

  • Vehicles within your own agency 
  • Personal vehicle for trips under 100 miles per day (mileage paid)
  • Motor Pools (Capitol Complex, Secondary Complex, outstate motor pools in Escanaba, Traverse City and Detroit)
  • Enterprise Rent-A-Car for short-term daily rental and trips over 100 miles
  • Contact VTS as usual for rental of 15 passenger vans, trucks, and other vehicles not available in our pools.
