Mr. Eaton was born In Orleans County, N. Y., Apr. 2, 1846. He served In the army during the War of Rebellion; came to Michigan in 1867, since which time he engaged In various business enterprises, acquiring considerable property.

During the campaign of 1888 he was chairman of the Van Buren County and Fourth Congressional District Republican committees. Mr. Eaton was at the State Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic, held at Muskegon, In March, 1891, he was unanimously elected department commander for the current year. Gov. Rich appointed him Adjutant General and while holding that office dropped dead, Feb. 27, 1895, at Detroit.
