Command Sergeant Major Kenneth L. Slee assumed the position of the Michigan National Guard State Command Sergeant Major February 12, 2005. Prior to that, he was the Command Sgt. Maj. of the 63rd Brigade (Troop Command) since May 2003.
Command Sgt. Maj. Slee is a resident of Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1968 and has an associates degree in Science, Civil Technology from Lansing Community College. His military education includes graduating in the top 6 percent of the United States Sergeants Major Academy Course, Command Sergeants Major Designee Course, two Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer's Academies, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Infantry Course, Small Arms Repair Course and the Topographic Instrument Repair Course.
Slee joined the Michigan Army National Guard in 1970 as a topographic instrument and small arms repair specialist. He served six years in the Maintenance community before transferring to Headquarters State Area Command where he served as operations sergeant and first sergeant. He has been a command sergeant major since October 15th, 1990.
Slee had been employed as a state civil service technician for 35 years prior to his selection as the state command sergeant major.
Command Sgt. Maj. Slee has received numerous awards including the Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal 2nd Award; Army Achievement Medal; Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal 5th Award; National Defense Service Medal with bronze star; NCO Professional Development Medal with "4" Device; Army Service Ribbon; Michigan Legion of Merit 2nd Award; Broadsword Service Medal with Gold Oak Leaf Cluster; and National Guard Bureau Command Sergeant Major Award.
