  1. Delegates will be given the topic for the writing contest during orientation on Sunday. The actual writing contest will take place Tuesday afternoon. This will allow the delegates to gather their thoughts to formulate their essay.
  2. The first place winner will receive $100.00 in cash or a US Savings Bond while the second and third place winners will each receive $50.00 in cash or a US Savings Bond. We will need social security numbers from the winning delegates to complete the paperwork on Friday.
  3. The first place winner will have their essay read during the graduation ceremony.
  4. The following rules will apply:

    1. The essay must be an "original" and not previously given at a public event. NOTE: Quotations may be used, however, they should be limited in size and number so that your essay is your essay.

    3. The essay must be legible and the use of proper grammar is expected.
    4. The writing contest will last roughly an hour.

You will be judged on the following points:

    1. Is the essay well written? Is it focused, pertinent and meaningful? Does the essay move logically from a well-developed argument and conclude with a clear conclusion.
    2. Is the essay inspiring and motivational?
    3. Does the essay cover the topic adequately (substance and thought)?
    4. Does the essay contain excessive use of acronyms or other jargon?
    5. Does the essay contain correct grammar, spelling and punctuation?
