Clinical social work practice is the professional application of social work theory and methods to the treatment and prevention of psychosocial dysfunction, disability, or impairment, including emotional and mental disorder. It is based on knowledge of one or more theories of human development within a psychosocial context. Clinical Social Work Services consists of assessments, treatment, including psychotherapy and counseling, client-centered advocacy, consultation, and evaluation.
At the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, the primary purpose of the Social Work Department in this long term care facility is to provide medically related social services to residents, to help them attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. "Medically related social services" means services provided to assist residents in maintaining or improving their ability to manage their everyday physical, mental, and psychosocial needs.
Our Clinical Social Workers possess a Master's Degree in Social Work by an accredited college or university. Also, they are licensed to practice clinical social work by the State of Michigan.
