Air National Guard Mission
The Air National Guard's mission is to provide well trained, well equipped men and women to augment the active force during national emergencies and war, and during times of peace, provide assistance for natural disasters and civil disturbances. The Air National Guard is administered by the National Guard Bureau, a joint bureau of the Departments of the Army and Air Force, located in the Pentagon, Washington, D. C.
Michigan Air National Guard Units
Headquarters, Michigan Air National Guard, located in Lansing Michigan, provides command, control and communications between higher headquarters, the Adjutant General and assigned units. Defines policy and provides guidance to enhance the readiness of the Michigan Air National Guard to perform both state and federal missions.
The Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC), located at Alpena Air National Guard Base, Alpena, Michigan, provides an integrated, year-round, realistic training environment (airspace, facilities and equipment) that enables military units to enhance their combat capability and readiness at a deployed, combat oriented operating base.
The 110th Fighter Wing is located at the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base in Battle Creek, Michigan. The 110th Fighter Wing is the home of the 172nd Fighter Squadron which flies the A-10 Thunderbolt II fighter.
The 127th Wing, located at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Mt Clemens, Michigan, is comprised of two flying units: the 107th Fighter Squadron and 171st Airlift Squadron. The 107th Fighter Squadron flies the F-16 Falcon fighter while the 171st Airlift Squadron flies the C-130 Hercules airlift aircraft.
