FAQ
  Military Records
Can the general public obtain copies of military records?

Answer:

Only limited information from Official Military Personnel Files is releasable to the general public without the consent of the veteran or the veteran's next-of-kin. The type of information that can be released strikes a balance between the public's right to know and the veteran's right to privacy. See the Research   page on the National Archives and Records Administration's web site for more details.
