The Department of Natural Resources announced today that P.H. Hoeft State Park just north of Rogers City in Presque Isle County is accepting reservations for weekly rental a newly renovated lodge. The three-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath lodge sleeps eight people and is open year-round.
The lodge, built in 1929, was a catalog-ordered Sears-Roebuck and Company pre-fabricated bungalow with 6 rooms and stands 150 yards from the Lake Huron shoreline. The garage used to house a 175-foot deep artesian well that fed water to the campground.
One of the improvements to the lodge includes new oak furniture. Tables, chairs, bunk beds, two queen size beds, four Adirondack chairs and a game table are among the items crafted by Department of Corrections' inmates learning new skills.
Amenities include a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. Linens/towels are supplied along with dishware, utensils, pots, pans, bakeware, a Weber grill, (charcoal not provided) a fire pit (wood for sale in the park) and a picnic table. Guests are expected to clean the lodge prior to their departure.
Smoking and pets are prohibited inside the lodge. Weekly rates are $580. Sunday-Thursday night is $80 per night. Friday and Saturday nights are $90 per night. Reservations between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends require a two-night minimum. A three-night continuous stay is required for holiday weekends. For more information or to make a reservation, contact P.H. Hoeft State Park at 989 734 2543.
P.H. Hoeft State Park is an excellent place to stay while visiting many northeast Michigan attractions. Black Mountain State Forest Recreation Area and Ocqueoc Falls are only 15 minutes from Hoeft. The Herman Vogler Conservation Area, a nine-acre impoundment that attracts a variety of waterfowl and wildlife, is four miles from the park. Hoeft is a perfect destination to stage an ORV, snowmobile, cross-country skiing, hiking, hunting or fishing adventure. A paved non-motorized trail leads from the park to Rogers City and a new trail from the park to 40-Mile Point Lighthouse Park will be constructed this fall by Michigan Department of Transportation. The park has over four miles of hiking/skiing trails.
All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.
