The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program is offering an exciting program for women who are interested in learning shotgun shooting skills or improving their existing skills.
The Aug. 2 workshop will be held at the Capital Area Sportsmen's League in Lansing and is limited to 12 women to allow for plenty of one-on-one instruction by two excellent instructors.
Tom Stewart, a certified trap instructor who also is certified through the NRA/ATA, will be instructing women in beginning trap shooting. Albert Massey, the second instructor, will offer instruction in five stand if women with a little more experience wish to try this challenging clay-target game.
Participants will meet at the club at 10:30 a.m. for registration, and a session on firearm safety and handling, types of guns, proper gun fit, range rules and etiquette. Instruction will focus on trap shooting and five-stand shooting.
Everyone should bring their own shotgun and four boxes of low-brass ammunition in the gauge to fit their gun. Guns will be provided for those who do not have one. Participants who will be trying a BOW shotgun are asked to bring four boxes of 20 gauge shells.
A catered lunch will be provided at the club. More instruction and the opportunity for more shooting will continue through the afternoon. Please plan to bring rain gear, sunscreen and a hat since this program will go regardless of weather.
