The Department of Natural Resources announced today that the problem with the quality of gasoline fuel at Copper Harbor Marina has been resolved and that boaters can now obtain gasoline at Copper Harbor Marina.
On July 25, the DNR suspended the sale of gasoline to boats at this facility due to a few boats stalling out after receiving the fuel. Although nothing was found through testing of the fuel, the suspect fuel was removed from the storage tank and replaced with new, premium fuel.
"We wanted to test the new gasoline, so we stayed in radio contact with several boats after the new fuel was dispensed, and no problems were encountered," said Lee VerBerkmoes, supervisor of the harbor. "Diesel fuel at the facility was never affected, and the suspension of sales was not associated to any leaks in the tank."
"We would like to thank those boaters involved, or affected by this situation, for their patience and understanding," said Ron Olson, chief of the DNR Parks and Recreation Division. "We recognize that quality fuel is an important component to recreational boating, and we are dedicated to providing quality recreational experiences to the boating public. For that reason, every effort will always be made to ensure quality fuel supplies."
