Upper Peninsula Habitat Work Group to Meet March 27

Contact:  Bill Scullon 906-786-2351, ext. 116
Agency: Natural Resources

March 24, 2009

The Upper Peninsula Habitat Work Group (UPHWG) will meet Friday, March 27, at the Bay College West Campus to review ongoing wildlife habitat initiatives. The public is invited to attend. The two-hour meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at Fornetti Hall, 2801 N. US-2 in Iron Mountain.

THE UPHWG was formed in 2002, as a subcommittee of the Natural Resources Commission's Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries, to better identify activities that will promote a healthy ecosystem for Upper Peninsula wildlife. A new cooperative land-management program for deer habitat on both private and public land and the Great Lakes Woodcock Initiative will be highlighted at the meeting.

"This meeting is set up with the intention of discussing long-term forest management and habitat goals in the Upper Peninsula to ensure sustainable wildlife habitat for all species," said UPHWG Chair J. R. Richardson. "That is the sole purpose of this group."

For more information, contact Department of Natural Resources Deer Range Improvement Program coordinator Bill Scullon, 6833 US-2, Gladstone, MI 49837; phone: (906) 786-2351, ext. 116 or by e-mail at scullonh@michigan.gov.
