The Department of Natural Resources invites the public to comment on a proposed freshwater mussel survey at a meeting Thursday, June 25, in Iron Mountain. The proposed survey will study freshwater mussels at the Little Quinnesec Hydroelectric Project, located on the Menominee River near Niagara, Wisconsin.

The meeting, hosted by the Michigan and Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources and Northbrook Energy, LLC, will take place from 6-7 p.m. CST at the Dickinson County Library, located at 401 Iron Mountain St. in Iron Mountain.

Little Quinnesec Hydroelectric Project owner, Northbrook Energy, LLC, will fund the DNR survey with money from an escrow account established to support fisheries resource enhancement measures. More information about the project will be provided at the public meeting, followed by an open comment period. Anyone unable to attend the meeting may provide written comments before July 6 to Jessica Mistak, DNR senior fisheries biologist, at 484 Cherry Creek Rd., Marquette, MI, 49855, or via e-mail at mistakjl@michigan.gov.

For more information, contact Mistak at (906) 249-1611, ext. 308.
