DNR Announces Accessibility Demo Day Event June 11 at Kensington Metropark

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Accessibility Advisory Council (AAC) invite the public to an Accessibility Demonstration Day as a part of "Tips-up for Troops" on June 11 at Kensington Metropark, located at 2240 Buno Rd. in Milford.

This event will focus on all areas of recreation and accessible equipment. "Tips-up for the Troops" is open for the public and features a classic car show, farm and nature center tours, Island Queen boat rides, the Just Joe Magic Show, midway games and boat displays. There will be an all-American barbeque sponsored by the Eisenhower Center of Ann Arbor from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Following the barbeque, Circus Amongus will be presenting an interactive circus that will introduce attendees to the fundamentals of circus arts. Participants will need an entrance permit for Kensington Metropark. Annual permits are $25, and daily passes are $5.

Types of adaptive equipment may include, but is not limited to:

-Mobility assistive devices for recreation, hunting and fishing; four-wheel-drive wheelchairs and ATV side by side
-Hand-cycling and biking
-Shooting technology
-Crossbows, modified bows, and compound bows (All bows must comply with DNR regulations.)
-Adaptive fishing equipment
-Kayaking/canoeing
-Accessible hunting blinds
-Skiing (water and snow)
-Pickup truck and van conversions
-Other adaptive equipment for outdoor recreation
