State Game/Wildlife Areas - listed by name

This is your gateway to detailed maps and other information about specific game/ wildlife areas, listed in alphabetical order by the official area name. These areas include: State Game Areas (SGA), State Wildlife Areas (SWA), State Fish and Wildlife Areas (SFWA), State Wildlife Research Areas (SWRA), State Wildlife Management Areas (SWMA), State Wildlife Properties (SWP, undedicated), and other wildlife lands. All of these lands are either administered by the DNR Wildlife Division, or co-managed by the DNR Wildlife Division with another DNR Division, agency or cooperator.

Each entry includes:

  • Contact information for the local office for questions,
  • Link to official Unit Map, with regulatory land use details on back,
  • Link to an interactive online Map-Michigan (http://www.mcgi.state.mi.us/mapmichigan/ ) tool for that specific area, which provides you driving-directions and more. Driving directions or routing from your provided address, is easy if you click on the red car how? after the specific area's interactive Map-Michigan window opens.     Beaver Islands State Wildlife Research Area in Charlevoix and Leelanau Counties
    is composed of the Beaver Island Group in Charlevoix county and the Fox Island Group in Leelanau County, and they are managed out of two offices.
