As a public service to the hunting guides and the hunting public, the Department of Natural Resources is providing the following directory to help put Michigan sportspersons in contact with a hunting guide authorized to do business on department-administered lands. This listing is provided solely as a convenience, and the department does not endorse or certify a guide's knowledge or ability.


Private Lands

• Hunting Access Program (HAP)
The Department of Natural Resources leases private lands for public hunting through the Hunting Access Program (HAP), created to increase public hunting opportunities in southern Michigan, where 97 percent of the land base is privately owned. All property under lease through this program is listed in the HAP Digest. The lands generally are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Various privately owned lands have had their hunting rights purchased, gifted or reserved by the State of Michigan. These lands are open to public hunting and trapping.
