Major Changes for 2009

  • Pure Michigan Hunt. Hunters may apply as often as they wish for this unique multi-species hunting opportunity that will allow three lucky individuals to hunt for elk, bear, spring and fall wild turkey, and more.
  • Additional DMUs included in late antlerless season.
  • Bobcat hunting and trapping season length in the U.P. has been shortened.    
  • Restrictions for body-gripping traps on public lands.
  • Colony trap and open-water beaver snare changes.
  • Hunting opportunities for crossbows have changed.
  • Quail hunting in field trial areas at Ionia and Highland Recreation Area is closed on the date of an authorized field trial.    
  • DMUs split between Zones 2 and 3 now have Zone 3 purchase opportunities.
  • Crow hunting season expanded in Zone 1.  
  • Coyote hunting season reopened Nov. 15-30 in Zone 2.  

Reminders for 2009

  • Baiting and feeding deer and elk are prohibited in the Lower Peninsula.
  • U.P. buck hunting regulations changed in 2008.
  • An early firearm antlerless deer hunting season on private land in some DMUs will be held Sept. 17-21.
  • Out-of-state deer and elk hunters - see import restriction.
  • You may purchase one archery deer license AND one firearm deer license OR one combination license.  It is unlawful to purchase additional archery, firearm or combination licenses.
  • There is a season limit of five private land antlerless deer licenses per person, of which no more than two may be purchased for Zone 1 and for DMUs entirely in Zone 2 combined (except for no quantity restrictions in deer management units in DMU 487).
  • During the youth firearm deer season a hunter may take an antlerless deer on a firearm or combination license.
  • You may purchase only one archery deer license AND one firearm deer license OR one combination license.
  • All harvested deer in the CWD surveillance zone must be taken to a DNR check station within the nine-township zone for CWD testing.

Hunter Harassment

Hunters in Michigan have the right to enjoy their sport free from deliberate interference. Individuals whose hunting is being obstructed should promptly report the violation to a local conservation officer, the nearest DNR Operations Service Center or by calling 800-292-7800. Sportsperson Discount

A 15 percent discount is provided when four or more hunting or fishing licenses are purchased at one time for the same person. These licenses must be purchased in the same transaction.
