Major Changes for 2008

• Upper Peninsula buck hunting regulations have changed.
• An early firearm antlerless deer hunting seasonon private land in some DMUs will be held Sept. 18-22. 
• Hunters with 100% disabilityas documented by the Dept. of Veteran Affairs may participate in the youth firearm season.   
• There is no acreage requirement to acquire a private land antlerless deer license.
• Hunters are limited to five private land antlerless deer licenses, of which no more than two may be purchased for Zones 1 and 2 combined.
• The area open to pheasant hunting Oct. 10-31 in the Upper Peninsulahas been expanded.   
• There is no trapping within 50 feet of the mowed portions of specific areas within state recreation areas.
• Areas previously closed to beaver and otter trapping in Mecosta and Newaygo counties have been opened. 

Reminders for 2008

• During the youth firearm deer season a hunter may take an antlerless deer on a firearm or combination license.
• Report your hunting activity online at www.michigan.gov/dnr.
• A landowner's telephone number is required to acquire a private land antlerless license.
• Out-of-state deer and elk hunters - see import restriction.
• You may purchase one archery deer license AND one firearm deer license OR one combination license.  It is unlawful to purchase additional archery, firearm or combination licenses.
• A free kill tag is required for bobcat, otter, fisher and marten.
• Hunting fox and coyotes from elevated platforms is permitted from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

Hunter Harassment

Hunters in Michigan have the right to enjoy their sport free from deliberate interference. Individuals whose hunting is being obstructed should promptly report the violation to a local conservation officer, the nearest DNR Operations Service Center or by calling 800-292-7800. Sportsperson Discount

A 15 percent discount is provided when four or more hunting or fishing licenses are purchased at one time for the same person. These licenses must be purchased in the same transaction. The waterfowl hunting license, 24-hour fishing license and all-species upgrade license are not eligible for this discount.
