Cultural or Scientific Collector's Permit
To apply for a cultural or scientific permit, print the form and follow the instructions for completion. Incomplete applications will be returned.
Fisheries Division will not accept a fax copy of the completed application.
Processing time for completed applications received in the DNR Fisheries Division office in Lansing is approximately one month. Therefore, applications should be submitted a minimum of five to six weeks prior to the start of anticipated field activities.
You may also apply on-line. A list of general provisions will be presented for your review. If you indicate that you agree with these provisions the online application will be available for your use. Fill out the application, being sure to include all of the relevant contact information. Once the application has been completed choose Submit to submit the form electronically.

Whether you use the form and mail the application to us or apply online, you may check the status of your submitted application using the link below. Allow one to two days of special processing time before checking on the status of your application submitted online.
ATTENTION: A Scientific Collector's Permit does NOT authorize legal access to or use of Public Lands. For any potential activities taking place in Michigan's state forests, state parks, state recreation areas or state game areas, a Permit to Use State Lands (PR1138-1) may also be required in addition to the Scientific Collector's Permit. There is no application fee for scientific collectors to secure a state land use permit and obtaining the permit will help ensure that conflicting uses on state lands will be minimized during your research or collection activities. On the State Land Use application, under the type of use, choose "other" and specify "scientific collectors permit". Check the Status of Your Application
Permits are issued by calendar year and expire on December 31. All permit holders are required to provide an annual year end report of the activities conducted and specimens collected under their scientific collector's permit. To provide your annual report, print the form below and mail it to address listed on the form.
