Major Regulation Changes for 2009

Statewide - Three Rods
Anglers may now use up to three rods or tip-ups while angling regardless of species. This allows use of three separate lines and up to six total hooks. For more information, see p. 7 under hook and line fishing.

Statewide - Northern Pike and Muskellunge Spearing Season Extended
The northern pike and muskellunge spearing season through the ice has been extended. The season now runs from Dec. 1-March 15. See p. 12.

Statewide - Smelt Possession Limit
A new two-gallon possession limit has been placed on smelt regardless of method of take.

Statewide - Chinook and Coho Salmon Possession Limit
A new possession limit now allows anglers to keep up to 5 salmon (coho and chinook) in the daily possession limit. The previous possession limit was 3 for these species. See p. 8.

Statewide - Lake Sturgeon Tag
A new lake sturgeon tag has been added to the license system so anglers can request one from any license vendor. There is no cost for this tag. Anglers targeting lake sturgeon for catch and keep or catch and release must possess this tag while lake sturgeon angling. See p. 11.
