Try One of the New Camper Cabins

If you've ever wanted to try camping, but didn't want to invest in a lot of expensive equipment, the Camper Cabins at Port Crescent State ParkLakeportMitchellPinckneyWaterlooHollandInterlochenMetamora-HadleyPort Crescent State Park Cabin Tawas PointOnawayVan RiperTahquamenon FallsFort Wilkins Historic State ParkProud Lake,  and Orchard Beach may be your answer. These 400-square foot cabins are situated on a scenic lots overlooking lakes, bays and rivers. Showers and bathroom facilities are nearby in the modern campground.

The difference from the highly popular mini-cabins is space. The camper cabin sleeps up to six people with two sets of bunk beds in their own rooms and a futon in the main living area. Click here for a complete floor plan.

Port Crescent State Park Cabin, View from PorchAnother difference is the view. The covered front porch is the ideal place to park a comfortable lawn chair and enjoy the view of the sun coming up or going down over one of the many lakes.

The cabins offer electrical outlets and shelves for food and supplies. Campers must supply their own bedding, dishes and cookware.

Outside the cabins the campers will find fire circles and picnic tables.  All Camper Cabins are universally accessible.

Constructed for less than $10,000, the Camper Cabins represents a collaboration between the DNR and the Michigan Department of Correction's Prison Build Program. Additional funding from the Natural Resources Trust Fund has been granted to build additional camper cabins in state parks and recreation areas across the Michigan.
