The Kitchigami Tepee, with a view of Lake Superior's Keweenaw Bay, is available for nightly rentals at Baraga State Park.

The first family to stay in the tepee was the Strei Family of Elk River, Minnesota, pictured to the left.

"Kitchigami" meaning "great water" or "great lake" is a name taken from the Ojibway Language Dictionary written by Bishop Frederic Baraga. This dwelling offers visitors a chance to learn about and experience the Ojibwa culture and traditions. The tepee is decorated with a pattern called "Big Lakes" in honor of "Otchipwe Kitchigami" or Lake Superior in the Ojibway language.

The tepee which is 16 feet around and will sleep 4-6 persons. It contains four cots and the exterior includes a picnic table and fire ring. Access to the modern restroom facilities is also available.
