Volunteer, it's a great feeling!

Whether you are collecting seeds or raising money for the cause of your choice, volunteering for the Department of Natual Resources is the best way you can help preserve Michigan's treasured natural resources.

Volunteers are needed for the Piping Plover Patrol, mostly at Wilderness and Leelanau State Parks, from late May through July, especially on weekends. Friendly people are necessary, and all volunteers will receive an official Piping Plover Patrol T-shirt. To volunteer for the Piping Plover Patrol, click here for the sign-up form, print it out, fill it in, and return it to the  address specified on the form.

If you like to camp, there are openings for campground hosts in state park and recreation areas as well as in state forest campgrounds. Campground Hosts assist campers by answering questions and explaining rules in a pleasant and helpful manner. To apply for a state park or recreation area, just fill out an application form and mail it directly to the State Park of your choice. You may apply to more than one park, but each park will need a completed application. Applications are available from all Michigan State Parks and Recreation Areas and the Parks and Recreation Division Office 517-373-9900. Applications are accepted year round until all vacancies are filled. If you are interested in being a host at a state forest campground, contact Ada Takacs at 989-275-5151, ext. 2049 or via e-mail, takacsa@michigan.gov. or Al Keto at 906-228-6561 or via e-mail, ketoa@michigan.gov.

Other Volunteer opportunities are:
