The Civilian Conservation Corps was an important force in the reforestation of Michigan and the healing of our land after the logging era and in the period of the Great Depression. Some of these men, both young men from 18-25 and veterans of the Spanish American War and the First World War, were part of CCC Camp 674 that helped to improve Hartwick Pines State Park after it was created in 1927. The CCC built the Logging Museum, finished work on the Memorial Building and planted thousands of trees in the park. In honor of this work, the Michigan Association of CCC Alumnis Grayling Chapter has donated a CCC statue that will be unveiled on June 20th as part of the State Park systems 90th birthday celebration. This statue will be on the grounds of the Logging Museum and the dedication will take place at 1pm with a short program, followed by the unveiling of the statue and cake and ice cream. This will be the 52nd CCC statue erected in the country. Statue number one is at the CCC Museum at North Higgins Lake State Park.
