Sharon M. Schafer was named chief of Budget and Support Services for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in November 2002. She is responsible for managing and overseeing the department’s operating and capital outlay budgets which exceed $250 million in total.
Schafer is a graduate of Davenport University with a bachelor’s degree in management and a minor in accounting.
She began her DNR career in November 1990 as an account technician in the federal aid section. She served in that capacity until July 1996, when she became a financial analyst in the budget section. She was promoted to manager of the budget development and control section in September 2000.
