The Natural Resources Commission's Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will be considering possible changes for use of crossbows to hunt in Michigan. In conjunction with Commission meetings for the remainder of 2008, the Policy Committee will be hosting meetings to discuss various options for crossbow hunting.
Under current regulations, individuals that have certain permanent disabilities which prevent their use of conventional archery equipment and have been certified by a physician, physical or occupational therapist, and have received a crossbow permit issued by the Department, may use a crossbow to hunt game. Additionally, firearm deer hunters, age 12 and older, may use a crossbow to hunt deer during the November 15-30 firearm deer season under the authority of a firearm deer license.
