Contact:  James Hooker 906-293-5131
Agency: Natural Resources

May 28, 2008

DeTour State Harbor will host its second annual Fishing Tackle Swap Meet on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the Department of Natural Resources.

This is another chance to "GO-Get Outdoors" and enjoy Michigan's great outdoors. Anyone interested in selling old or new fishing tackle, or just wanting to display fishing rods, reels, spears, old licenses, decoys, patches, photos, artwork or anything else fishing-related, can contact Jim Hooker at 906-293-5131 ext. 4021 to reserve a space. Bring your own canopies and/or tables to set up in the marina parking lot.

Newberry's own decoy carver Carl Christiansen and other well known carvers will be on hand whittling their spearing decoys and will have some for sale. Restaurants and lodging are nearby. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided.

This event coincides with Michigan's Free Fishing Weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, fishing licenses will not be required, but all other fishing regulations will apply. The DeTour Atlantic "X" Salmon Fishing Derby is going to be held on June 7 as well.

Call Jim Hooker at 906-293-5131 ext. 4021 for more information about this event. Questions about the fishing derby should be directed to Gary Dudeck at 906-297-2400. DeTour State Harbor is located at 600 N. Ontario in DeTour Village.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
