Fort Custer State Recreation Area will be hosting a "GO-Get Outdoors" hydroplane race event on June 21 and 22.

The Michigan Hydroplane Racing Association (MHRA) has added Eagle Lake at Fort Custer to its racing schedule this year for a J-Class (Junior) powerboat race. This is a family-oriented event with racing boat drivers of all ages offering thrills to all who watch. The races are scheduled to start around 11 a.m. and will run until 6 p.m.

Spectators are welcome all weekend. For safety reasons, swimming at the beach will be limited on Friday (for the race course set-up) and prohibited on Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are also welcome to enter the race pit area to get a close up look at the boats and talk with the drivers. Those who choose to tour the pit area will be asked to sign a liability waiver before entering.

Anglers are welcome to use the boat launch and fish the lake, but are asked to stay clear of the race course and staging area.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.
