Sleeper State Park and Port Crescent State Park will be hosting a special "Summer Solstice" event on June 21 at each park. The event is to showcase how campers can save on resources, especially energy, while they are camping at state parks and perhaps use these techniques at home.
This event is an outgrowth of the Department of Natural Resources' Parks and Recreation Division's Energy Efficiency Education (E3) Program, designed not only to reduce the carbon footprint left by park staff, but also by park visitors. With escalating energy prices, this event should not only be entertaining, but highly useful to all who participate.
Activities will include nature hikes, stargazing, various "how-to" demonstrations, a raffle and a lights-out hour, similar to the nationwide lights-out conducted recently, and much more.
For information about this event, contact Sleeper State Park at 989-856-4411 or Port Crescent State Park at 989-738-8663.
Sleeper State Park is located at 6573 State Park Rd. in Caseville. Port Crescent State Park is located at 1775 Port Austin Rd. in Port Austin.
