Applications for reserved waterfowl hunts at state game areas may be submitted beginning Friday, Aug. 1, at all license dealers and on line, at www.michigan.gov/dnr, Department of Natural Resources wildlife officials announced today.
Reserved hunts are available for both mornings and afternoons for the opening weekend at Harsen's Island, Shiawassee River State Game Area and Fish Point. In all cases, the opening day afternoon hunt is reserved for parties that include at least one youth 10 to 16 years of age with the appropriate licenses. On the day of the hunt, successful applicants must have appropriate licenses and stamps and be accompanied by one to three other appropriate licensed hunters. No more than two adults, at least one of which must be over 18, may be in the party during the youth hunts.
Reserved goose hunts will also be held the mornings of opening weekend at the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge.
The cost of the application is $4. Hunters may apply for one hunt only. Results will be posted Monday, Sept.15, at www.michigan.gov/dnrdrawings.
The Natural Resources Commission plans to set waterfowl season dates at its Aug. 14 meeting in Lansing.
